- Are suitable people to care for young children and meet the membership requirements of the association;
- Commit to professional development and keep up to date with recommendations for best practice to provide the highest standards of care;
- Recognise each child and family as unique, respecting their privacy, confidentiality, culture and choices, and act to meet their unique needs;
- Provide a safe, healthy and supportive environment, both physically and emotionally;
- Enhance their charges’ development through high-quality stimulation and early education;
- Work within the framework of the law and understand how it applies to them and their work;
- Refrain from using corporal punishment and discipline techniques which are inappropriate for a child’s age and developmental stage;
- Advocate for all children and young people, refreshing and renewing safeguarding training regularly, and take action to safeguard children when necessary;
- Promote positive relationships with children, employers, other professionals and employment agencies and conduct themselves in a professional manner;
- Dedicate themselves to the wellbeing of their charges, putting the best interests of the children in their care before anything else.
