You probably won't need to ask all these questions to get the information that you need, and you may feel that some of the questions are not relevant to the role you are interviewing for.
Why have you chosen a nanny to provide childcare? What did you like/dislike about your previous childcare?
What are your expectations of me during contracted hours? Do you expect me to be available to work outside contracted hours? Do you expect me to be contactable for day to day (non-emergency) questions outside working hours?
Are you happy to agree a gross salary and deduct my tax and NI contributions?
Are you aware that you also need to pay employer NICs on top of a nanny’s gross salary?
Are you aware that you will also need to offer a pension scheme, which can be done via payroll companies?
Do you plan to pay using childcare vouchers/tax credits/tax free childcare?
Are you happy to pay overtime when necessary?
Do you already have a payroll company in mind or are you plannine to handle it yourself?
What are the usual hours of work?
What are the longest possible hours you would expect e.g. to cover early meetings or transport disruption?
What nursery duties would you like me to do?
Do you require me to do any cooking/washing/light housekeeping for you or will it be children only?
Will you provide petty cash for activities? Do you have limits on what this can be spent on? Would you prefer me to okay large expenditures with you? Up to what amount? Do you want me to keep receipts or is it okay to keep track in a notebook?

Will you provide appropriate carseats that fit in my car? Are you happy for them to stay installed securely in my car all week? What about weekends?

If we are both at home, who do you want to discipline the children?
Do your children have any allergies or intolerances?
What are their favourite foods?
What do you like them to eat for breakfast? Lunch? Dinner? Snacks?
How do you feel about buying treats out and about?
How do you feel about baking cakes and biscuits at home?
Are you happy for me to eat meals on duty?
What are your children’s daily sleep requirements?
What time do they go to bed? Wake up in the morning?
Do they have a special naptime routine?
What does bedtime look like for your children?
Do you have any concerns about your children’s development?
Are you happy for me to carry out observations from time to time to assess their development and communicate these to you?
Do your children have any health conditions?
Will you need me to accompany your children to medical appointments? Will you provide a letter of consent?
Are your children vaccinated? Do you expect me to keep track of when their next vaccines/boosters are due?
Are you happy for me to care for your children when they are ill?
How long do you see this role lasting?
Are there any changes you can forsee in the next 12 months that may have an effect on my role?
